1. Introduction

TrolleyChecker (“we”, “our”, “us”) operates a grocery price comparison website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our service.

2. Information We Collect

Account information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and an encrypted password. This data is stored securely via Supabase (our database provider).

Usage data: We collect information about how you use the service, including products you save, shopping lists you create, and spending history you track. This data is associated with your account to provide our core features.

Local storage: If you use the site without an account, some preferences and data are stored locally in your browser. This data never leaves your device unless you create an account.

Search queries: When you search for products, your queries are sent to third-party APIs (Google Shopping via SerpApi) to fetch pricing data. We do not store your search history.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain the service (price comparison, shopping lists, saved products)
  • Authenticate your identity and secure your account
  • Sync your data across devices when you are logged in
  • Display personalised dashboard features (budget tracking, spending insights)

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Third-Party Services

  • Supabase — database hosting, authentication, and data storage
  • SerpApi — product search and pricing data via Google Shopping
  • Vercel — website hosting and delivery

Each of these providers has their own privacy policy governing how they handle data.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. You can export or delete all of your data at any time from the Settings page. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our systems.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Database access is protected by row-level security policies ensuring you can only access your own data.
